51st NIGERIA INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION IN NYC: October 6 – 8, 2011



It’s that time of year again- Nigeria celebrates its independence and cities all around will host celebrations in honor of our beloved country.  From October 6-8, 2011, New York will host its annual Nigerian Independence Day weekend festivities, this year celebrating 51 years of Nigeria’s independence.

Thursday, October 6, 2011 – Welcome Party - New York welcomes Young Nigerians from all around the globe to participate in this year’s Independence Day celebration.  The event will be held at FESTAC Ultra Lounge located at 263 Hendrix Street, Brooklyn, NY. Time – 10 PM. Admission is free.

Friday, October 7, 2010 – Cultural Night – Consisting of a fashion show, live entertainment, and the annual Miss Nigeria Independence Day Pageant, Cultural Night will take place at Brooklyn College located at 2901 Campus Road, Brooklyn, NY 11210. Time: 7 PM – 12 midnight.  Admission: $20 per adult, $10 per child under 14.

Saturday, October 8, 2010 – 12 Noon – Parade & Festival – The parade will begin on 54th Street and Second Avenue in Manhattan, and end at the Nigeria House on 44th Street and Second Avenue.  This annual parade with its now famous colorful floats and moving live music attracts public officials, tens of thousands of people in their traditional attires, various organizations and cultural groups proudly carrying their banners, and marching bands.
