Blink-182's First New Song Is a Downer

"All these demons/They keep me up all night." That's the refrain in the first new Blink-182 single since a track on a greatest hits in 2005. Not exactly the wasted whine, "Say it ain't so/I will not go/Turn the lights off/Carry me home." To be fair, the pop-punk trio have been through a lot since they released "All the Small Things" on 1999's Enema of the State: Drummer Travis Barker has survived a reality show and a plane crash, singer/bassist Mark Hoppus formed a band with a name nobody could agree how to spell (+44), and singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge has weathered a debilitating case of megalomania. Their new album, Neighborhoods, has a tentative release date of September 27th.

Blink's music has always been about growing pains (see "What's My Age Again?" and "Dammit"), and maturity is certainly a serious issue for a bunch of bros who are now in their mid- to late-30s. Musically, "Up All Night" isn't a giant leap forward, retaining the classic Blink crunch, harmonies, and sweet pre-chorus. And ultimately, it can't touch another incredible song with the same name:
